Most of us only get the Ber Months feeling for a few months a year. Happy Ber Months is the small, soft attempt to keep a little of that feeling alive for the rest of it.
What it is, in plain words
Happy Ber Months is a cosy lifestyle home for one feeling: the feeling of the Ber Months. The warmth, the slowing down, the soft light, the candles, the hot drinks, the comfort, the sense of looking forward to something good.
The countdowns are part of it, but the bigger idea is closer to a small home on the internet for cosy living, done well, all year round.
The mission
To bring the warmth, comfort, nostalgia and slower pace of the Ber Months into the rest of the year. A small, warm place to come back to. A reminder to slow down, to be mindful, to listen, to reflect. To make a little room for the softer side of living.
Cosy is a way of living, year-round. Not a season the calendar gives you and takes away. The lamp lit in March. The soup made in May. The slow Sunday in July. The first jumper of the year is whenever you say it is.
The feeling, in plain terms
When we say the feeling of the Ber Months, we mean:
- Warmth and comfort
- Slowing down
- Soft light, candles, a fire
- A hot drink in your hands
- Something to look forward to
- A little nostalgia
- Being snug and unhurried
The three parts
The website. This place. The cosy content, the seasonal countdowns to the key Ber dates, and a small set of playful tools: a cosiness quiz, a warm drink matcher, a mood idea generator, an is-it-too-early oracle, and a daily cosy nugget.
The podcast, Ber With Me. My warm, conversational look at the philosophy of cosy living. I cover the run-up to all the cosy days, the festive moments, the slow rituals, and the people we share it all with. One topic an episode.
The newsletter, The Monthly Ber. A warm letter, once a month. A cosy idea, something to make or try, a film or book worth your evening, what is coming up on the calendar, and a small thought to sit with.
Ber With Me, in more detail
Ber With Me is the show I get to take my time with. One idea per episode, room to sit with it, see what comes up. The themes I keep coming back to are nostalgia, traditions, simple pleasures, creating atmosphere, slowing down, and the small things that make a normal day feel special. Personal and easy, the way a chat by the fire should be.
Who is behind it
Both sides of that, the business and the racing, run pretty hot. They ask a lot of you. The older I have got, the more I have learnt that I need a proper opposite to balance them out. So in my downtime I lean the other way. Long walks. A candle lit early in the morning while the house is still quiet. A journal and a cup of something warm. Mindfulness, in the unfussy sense. Peacefulness and tranquillity are core values for me now, ones I have leant into more and more as time has gone on.
I am also deep into nostalgia. Thinking about it, feeling it, reliving evenings and memories and experiences from the past. A lot of what shows up here comes straight from that side of me.
Happy Ber Months is the warmer, slower side of that thinking. The one that finds the same idea, of doing less and doing it properly, of looking after yourself, softened a little, with a blanket over it. I hope you stay a while.
Who it is for
People who love that cosy, slow, warm feeling and want more of it in their lives. Not only at Christmas, all year round. A bit nostalgic, happiest with a hot drink and the lights low. UK leaning, with cosy souls anywhere welcome.
