September 1 · The Ber Months begin

The Ber Months Begin

The longest, loveliest season begins.

All countdowns

About this day

The Ber Months take their name from the four months that end in "ber": September, October, November, December. In the Philippines, September 1 marks the unofficial start of the longest Christmas season in the world. Carols go on, decorations appear, the soft countdown begins, and nobody pretends to be surprised.

For the rest of us, September 1 is the start of the slow descent into cosy. The light starts changing. Evenings come earlier. Wool jumpers come out of the back of the wardrobe. The kettle works overtime.

Happy Ber Months is named after this feeling, so today is, in a way, the brand's birthday. The spiritual new year for cosy people. The official permission slip to start.

What to do today

Nothing fancy. Just acknowledge it. Light the first candle of the year. Pick a playlist for the season. Make a stew for no reason. Wear a jumper, even if it is still warm out.
